Babul Supriyo

Weeks after being removed from as Union minister, BJPโ€™s Asansol MP Babul Supriyo on Saturday announced that he was quitting politics.

The former Union minister however made it clear that he would not join any party โ€“ TMC, Congress, CPI(M).

The Bollywood singer said he is a โ€œone-team playerโ€.

The BJP leader from West Bengal made the announcement in a Facebook post.

He started the Facebook post with โ€œIโ€™m leavingโ€ฆfarewellโ€.

โ€œHeard everyoneโ€™s words โ€“ father, (mother) wife, daughter, two dear friendsโ€ฆAfter hearing everything, I say that I am not going to any other party โ€“ #TMC, #Congress, #CPIM, nowhereโ€ฆ I am a one Team Player!โ€

โ€œHave always supported one team #MohunBaganโ€ฆHave backed only BJP in West Bengalโ€ฆThatโ€™s itโ€ฆI am goingโ€ฆโ€ the artiste wrote in the post.

โ€œIf you want to do social work, you can do it without being in politicsโ€ฆletโ€™s organise myself a little first and thenโ€ฆ,โ€ he wrote.

Supriyo was serving as the Union minister of state for environment, forest, and climate change before he was dropped from the ministry.

But he was removed as a minister in the Narendra Modi Cabinet earlier this month.

In the last West Bengal Assembly election 2021, he lost in the Tollygunj constituency in Kolkata by over 50,000 votes.

He has thanked Union minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda for โ€œtheir loveโ€.

He wrote: โ€œโ€ฆthey might think Iโ€™m โ€˜bargainingโ€™ for a โ€˜positionโ€™โ€ฆI pray they donโ€™t misunderstand me, forgive meโ€ฆโ€
