Actor-activist Deep Sidhu, who is named as one of the main accused in the Republic Day violence case in Delhi has been arrested by the police.

Deep Sidhu was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday morning from Zirakpur area which is located between Chandigarh and Ambala in Haryana.

Sidhu was sent to 7-day police custody later in the evening on Tuesday.

Deep Sidhu allegedly instigated the protesting farmers in Delhi on Republic Day (January 26) to barge into the historic Red Fort and hoist a ‘Nishan Sahib’, a Sikh religious flag.

Protesters were seen climbing the ramparts of the historic Red Fort and hoisting a ‘Nishan Sahib’ flag, besides clashing with the police.

The Delhi Police last week had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information on Deep Sidhu and two of his associates.

Deep Sidhu kept changing his location to evade arrest.

36-year-old actor-activist Deep Sidhu had been uploading videos on social networking sites defending himself.

The videos were reportedly uploaded in the social media by one of his California-based friend.

Deep Sidhu claimed that people marched towards the Red Fort “on their own”.

Till date, 44 FIRs have been registered and 127 persons arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence that broke out on Republic Day at the National Capital.
