The number of people who tested positive for the new mutated strain of Covid-19 in the country has increased to 38.

A total of 38 samples have been found to be positive with the new UK Covid-19 variant.

Of the 38 cases of the mutant strain, 10 have been detected at NIMHANS Bengaluru, three at CCMB Hyderabad, five at NIV Pune, 11 at IGIB Delhi, eight at NCDC Delhi and one at NCBG Kolkata.

NCBS, InSTEM, Bengaluru, CDFD Hyderabad, ILS Bhubaneswar, and NCCS Pune have so far found no UK mutant virus.

To prevent the spread of this mutated variant of the virus, authorities have started comprehensive contact tracing for co-travellers, family contacts and others.

So far, the presence of the new UK variant has already been reported by Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.

According to government data, nearly 33,000 passengers disembarked at various Indian airports from the UK between November 25 and December 23 midnight.

All these passengers are being tracked and subjected by states and UTs to RT-PCR tests.
