At least 18 people have lost their lives and five other sustained injuries in a tragic road accident at Nadia district in West Bengal. 

Over 20 people, in a matador car, were on their way to a crematorium at Nadia district in West Bengal when the accident took place. 

The matador car collided with a stone-laden lorry, which was parked on the side of the road, resulting the death of 18 people on the spot.

Meanwhile, those injured in the accident have been shifted to Shaktinagar district hospital.

According to police, the accident happened due to thick fog and the high speed of the vehicle. 

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and chief minister Mamata Banerjee have expressed grief at the loss of lives. 

“Deeply pained at the reported death of 18 people and 5 others injured in Nadia District after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck parked on the side of the road,” West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said. 

“Government of West Bengal will extend every necessary assistance and support to the kin of the victims,” said CM Mamata Banerjee.
