Amid COVID19 pandemic, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has released the first comprehensive geological map of the moon.

The USGS has created the map with the help of the Lunar Planetary Institute and NASA, which will help future research on the moon.

The map, according to reports, has detailed information on the surface of the moon.

The USGS released the 1:5,000,000 map of the moon. The map is colour coded for the researchers, scientists and lunar enthusiasts.

Though several satellites have been orbiting the moon for the last few years, this is for the first time that the detailed geological map of the moon could be described.

Scientists at the USGS said the map will help thousands of students across the globe to widen their knowledge on lunar geologic sciences.
