The Rotaract Club of Guwahati Luit is organizing a special screening of upcoming Bollywood movie Padman on February 11 at Grande Cines, Paltan Bazar.
The screening of the movie entitled ‘Movie for a Cause’ will take place from 6pm to 9:15 pm. “All the proceedings from the special screening will be donated towards #WeForHer Donate.Educate.Care a campaign which works towards creating awareness regarding menstrual health and hygiene among women” said Rotaract Club of Guwahati Luit.
The Phase 4 of the campaign is initiated towards continuing the work through the medium of entertainment. The first two phases of the campaign saw the distribution of 7000 sanitary pads and a 2 hour educational session by Narayana Hridayala, Guwahati to 400 underprivileged girls belonging to mostly rural or semi-urban areas.
All the proceedings will go towards buying sanitary pads which would be distributed on a large scale on March 8 which is the International Women’s Day.
The film Padman tells the story of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He is the inventor of low-cost sanitary pad-making machine and is widely credited for generating much needed awareness in the grassroots level about traditional and unhygienic menstrual practices in rural India.
