Gold deposits around 3,000 tonnes and worth Rs 12 lakh crore, has been discovered by the Geological Survey of India in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.
This is almost five times India’s current gold reserve.

The deposits were found in Son Pahadi and Hardi areas of Sonbhadra district.
The search for gold reserve in Sonbhadra district began way back in 1992-93.
Sources informed that auctioning of these blocks through e-tendering would start soon.

GSI has estimated the deposits at Soan Pahadi is around 2,943.26 tonnes and the ones at Hardi block is around 646.16 kilograms.
Some other materials, apart from Gold, has also been found in the area.
