X Polo Club Wangkhei in Imphal East district emerged as champion in the 34th N Hazari & Dr N Tombi State Polo Tournament in Imphal on Sunday.

In the final match of the tournament which was played at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, X Polo Club defeated their rival Chingkhei Hunba Polo club (A) also from Imphal East district by 5-3 goals. L Atangba and P Ojit of X polo club are the main scorers while Th Kaoba and Leishemba Takhellambam are the scorers of Chingkhei Hunba Polo club.

Altogether 31 polo clubs of Manipur participated in the state level polo tournament organized by Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association (MHRPA) from October 22 onwards.

Minister, Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution, Revenue, Karam Shyam attended as chief guest of the concluding day on Sunday. President H Deleep Singh of MHRPA, wife of late Dr N Tombi Singh, Naorem Sanatombi Devi and Director, Veterinary & Animal Husbandary Services, Manipur, Dr H Chaoba Singh also attended the function as President and Guests of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion Minister Shyam said the Manipuri pony has been long associated with the history of the state which is the basic reason why polo ground and the game of polo still exist in Manipur.
