A one-day regional review workshop on family planning for the North Eastern states was held in Kohima on Wednesday.
Addressing the workshop, Deputy Director (FP), Ministry of Health & Family Planning, Government of India, Dr SK Sikdar said family planning programme is one of the root causes of the problem of the mother and the child are facing all across the country. He highlighted the new initiatives of Government of India under Family Planning Programme
Dr Sikdar also made a presentation on where the States stand when it comes to Family Planning Programme and where we need to improve upon..
R Ramakrishnan, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, stressed that health being everybody’s concern, all the angles should be taken into consideration while delivering the service to the people. He also underlined the need for roping in all stakeholders, especially the churches, to create awareness on the importance of family planning among the people through all possible platforms with ownership.
Welcoming the officials from various districts of Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, Dr Limaakum Jamir, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland called upon them to take full opportunity of the occasion and clarify all confusions, share problems and seek solutions and directions from the Central officials who were present for the workshop.
The Central team briefed the officials on issues pertaining to the new initiatives of family planning programme and its progress, quality aspect of family planning and it Logistic Management Information System, Expanded Contraceptive Basket, family planning opportunities in post pregnancy and monitoring and data reporting.
