The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, in his speech at the 69th Republic Day celebration held at the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School playground in Diphu on Friday, said that the people of Karbi Anglong will have to keep on demanding statehood until the government fulfils it.
While delivering his speech on the occasion of the Republic Day celebration in Diphu, KAAC CEM Ronghang said, “We will have to keep on demanding statehood until we get it.”
Ronghang further said, “Many have been martyred in the movement demanding statehood. I pray to the Almighty for the peace of their souls.”
Calling all the people of Karbi Anglong to continue the fight for statehood, KAAC CEM Ronghang said, “Let all of us irrespective of caste, creed, community and religion fight for statehood.”
While delivering his speech, Ronghang also spoke on the BJP government’s welfare schemes like Ujjwala through which LPG gas connection is provided to BPL households and the Swacch Bharat.
Ronghang also recalled the role of the freedom fighters of India.
CEM Ronghang spoke about statehood only in the Karbi version of his speech.
He did not make any mention about the statehood in Assamese and English speeches.
Besides, his speeches in Assamese and English had different references.
However, he made mention about the BJP government’s works in all his versions of the R-Day speech.
It may be mentioned a separate statehood has been demanded clubbing Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong – the two hill districts of Assam – in Assam.
