Nature Learning Centre, Forest Department, Manipur in partnership with the Wildlife Institute of India (WIT) , Dehradun and Zonal Education Office, Wangoi, Government of Manipur hosted a two -day in and around Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP) which concluded on Friday.

The KLNP which is the only floating wildlife sanctuary in the world, located on the southern portion Loktak Lake in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, is the natural habitat of the brow antlered deer locally known as Sangai. Presently there are a total of 251 Sangai including 63 males, 134 females and 54 fowls.

The Jungle Trail, Bird Watching, Nature Quiz, Talent Show, Screening of Nature Movies, cleanliness drive and Nature sensitisation talks with various experts and Forests staffs are salient features of the nature camp, reports reaching here said. The overnight stay and Camping was done at Sekmaijin High school with enthusiastic participation from both students and teachers alike.

The residential Nature Camp showed a successful participation of more than 62 students along with their teachers from 6 different Government schools under Zonal Education Office, Wangoi, ranging from VI to X classes, both male and females.

In the recently concluded Manipur assembly, Manipur Forest and Environment Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar said that the Forest department in collaboration with locals had taken up various conservation activities, including opening rescue centres, social fencing, holding awareness programmes. The department had also started demarcation of the national park in consultation with the State Revenue department, he added.
