Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday said his ministry will take initiatives to impart training and educate people of Northeast on Hindi language.
“I had recently been in Guwahati. I came to know that people from almost all the states in Northeast speak Hindi language…I was told people there use Hindi as a medium of communication.
“So we will take steps to give proper training and classes on Hindi to the people of Northeast,” said Shah.
He said this while addressing the gathering at the Hindi Rajbhasa celebration programme at Vigya Bnawan here.
Shah further said that Hindi should be made national language of the country.
“In India we have so many languages. All Indian languages have their own significance. But there should be one language which could unite the people across the country,” said Shah.
Shah’s statement regarding use of Hindi language as a national language immediately generated sharp reactions.
Hindi Rajbhasa Divas is being celebrated in India on September 14 to mark its acceptance as official language by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.
