Congress MP from Silchar in Barak Valley, Sushmita Dev has said that she would destroy the Assam Assembly building, if name any Indian citizen was left out of  updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

“If any Indian citizen was left out of the NRC, we will took to the street, and if needed, we will destroy the state assembly in pieces,” said Deb while addressing a rally at Nilambazar area under Karimganj South assembly constituency.

The Lok Sabha MP also vowed to raise the issue in the Lok Sabha.

Names of a large number of Bengali Hindu residents in Barak Valley reported failed  to make to the final draft NRC which was published on July 30 this year.

Terming the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 as Centre’s conspiracy, Dev said that the government should provide citizenship to all regardless of religion or caste. “If Modi government’s Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed in Lok Sabha, people of Barak would have to show documents of Bangladesh,” She said while addressing the rally.

Dev is also a member of the 30-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) which is examining the Bill at present.
