To strengthen the privacy features and prevent intruders from snooping on users’ messages, WhatsApp had also earlier introduced biometric authentication features such as Touch ID and Face ID for iPhone users.

The introduction of the new fingerprint lock feature had been revealed by WhatsApp in its recent blog post.

It stated,” Earlier this year, we rolled out Touch ID and Face ID for iPhone to provide an extra layer of security for WhatsApp users. Today we’re introducing similar authentication, allowing you to unlock the app with your fingerprint, on supported Android phones”

In order to use the fingerprint lock feature, one must first go to Google Play Store and update the WhatsApp application.

After downloading the updated version of WhatsApp, one must go the Settings section in WhatsApp.

One must next proceed to the Account section and then click on Privacy section and finally on the Fingerprint Lock section.

Users must turn on the unlock with fingerprint feature and then confirm their fingerprint.

Users can choose to let WhatsApp ask for fingerprint authentication as soon as one closes the app or they can set a specific time limit.

Moreover, the new fingerprint lock feature allows users to choose whether the content of their messages will be visible in notifications.
