Agartala: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday, justifying why the INDI bloc Tripura unit has demanded a re-poll to prevent the undermining of the people’s mandate and to protect the sanctity of democracy.
In the letter, Chaudhury highlighted discrepancies in the polled votes in two assembly segments.

For example, in the 10-Majlishpur Assembly, the total polled votes were 574, with 566 in the polling station, three postal votes, five votes from the aged home, and five EDC votes, while the total number of voters is 545.
Similarly, in the 5-Kayerpur Assembly, the total polled votes were 1292, with 1279 in the polling station, 4 postal votes, 1 aged home vote, 3 PWD votes, and 5 EDC votes, while the total number of voters is 1290.
Chadhury further stated that these records unequivocally indicate that the elections for the 1-Tripura East Parliamentary Constituency and the bye-election for the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency, which is a part of the same parliamentary constituency, were not conducted in a free, fair, and normal manner.

“Such discrepancies in polling percentages may only occur when the booths are captured and completely rigged in an organized manner. These discrepancies justify the demand of the Left Front as well as the INDI Bloc to countermand both of the above elections and arrange a fresh poll to prevent the undermining of the people’s mandate and to protect the sanctity of democracy,” he added.
