West Kameng dogged by shortage cops to tackle crimes

The first ever interaction programme of the police department with the district administration, community based organizations (CBOs) and the public of West Kameng district organised by the district police headed by SP, Raja Banthia, highlighted shortage of police personnel in the district to tackle rising  incidents of crimes.

The programme was attended by local MLA and advisor to chief minister, Japu Deru, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Garg and West Kameng deputy commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop.

The meeting discussed various issues like safety and security of commuters in relation to the BCT road, rampant road accidents involving army vehicles, cyber crimes, comprehensive traffic managements, tackling of cannabis etc.

Noted issues raised by the CBOs included scarcities of police personnel in the district that caused delayed PCR response, illegal poaching and timber operations in Kamengbari and Doimara areas by the intruders from adjoining populace of Assam.

MLA Deru called for modernization of the state police force and informed that the government was soon recruiting of more than 2000 police personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Swaroop said safety and security of citizen is the first priority of both police and the administration.

IGP Garg while addressing the gathering said informed that the government was soon launching a National Emergency Response System which will club all the essential services including PCR, ambulance etc in a single platform.
