The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) on Friday announced its plan to open a Vivanta hotel in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya.
IHCL, which owns the Taj group of hotels, has partnered with Aura Hotels & Resorts Private Limited and both the companies signed a contract to open a Vivanta hotel in Shillong.
The Vivanta hotel will be set up at Police Bazar area in Shillong.
Vivanta is another brand of IHCL.
The hotel will comprise 100 well-furnished guest rooms and other features include multi-cuisine restaurants, recreation facilities and modern meeting spaces.
Commenting on the signing, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHCL, said, “The signing of Vivanta Shillong is in line with Aspiration 2022 and its domestic expansion strategy of consolidating presence in key capital cities.
“This signing also demonstrates our commitment to North East India. We are delighted to partner with Aura Hotels and Resorts Private Limited for this hotel,” he added.
Aura Hotels & Resorts Private Limited is a part of Guwahati-based SM Group, a diversified business group with operations in Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal.
Informing about the opening of the Vivanta hotel in Meghalaya, chief minister Conrad Sangma stated on his Twitter handle, “It is indeed a matter of great pride for us that the hotel is setting foot in our State.
“Our move towards development and prosperity is in fast progress and I am certain that this will immensely benefit our tourism industry in Meghalaya,” said the Meghalaya CM.

The IHCL is one of South Asia’s largest hospitality companies, which operates hotel brands like Ginger, SeleQtions, The Gateway in addition to Taj and Vivanta.
