US Ambassador to India, Kenneth Juster, during his two-day visit to Tripura also visited the India-Bangladesh border at Akhaura on Thursday and said that he was “mighty pleased” to see the connectivity in the region between India and Bangladesh.
While visiting the OTPC power plant at southern Tripura, the envoy said, “I visited the power plant on Thursday and was glad to see that GE (US company) engines were driving the power system. This I think is an example where we can work together in partnership to increase the regional connectivity. And it is really wonderful to see the relationship between India and Bangladesh and the border bonhomie. I am delighted to be here.”

On Thursday morning, he visited the 726.6 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant of ONGC Tripura Power Company at Palatana the turbines of which were manufactured by American multinational General Electric (GE) Company.
With Bangladesh opening its sea and river ports for India recently, the envoy said that the US was “looking at opportunities to invest in North East India”. The diplomat also met the Tripura Chief Minister (CM) Biplab Kumar Deb at the State Secretariat.
