The Meghalaya cabinet, on Wednesday, approved relaxation of upper age limit for state government jobs. 

The upper age limit for Meghalaya government jobs has been relaxed from 27 years to 32 years.

The decision was announced by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma following a cabinet meeting. 

However, this age relaxation will not be applicable for certain departments like the police, forest guards, home guards and civil defence, that require physical fitness as a criteria.

“In a historic move, the cabinet has decided to relax the upper age limit for candidates applying for government services by five years,” said Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma. 

He added: “This will however not be applicable for certain departments like police which require physical fitness as a criteria.” 

“Through this decision, the age relaxation has been increased from 27 to 32 years and for Scheduled Tribes (STs) another five years will be added thereby relaxing the upper age limit to 37 years,” Conrad Sangma further said.
