Union cabinet minister for textiles and woman & child development Smriti Z Irani met Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday in Guwahati.

During a meeting with union minister Irani at Brahmaputra Guest House in Guwahati, chief minister Sonowal had discussions on the progress of ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ campaign in Assam.

The meeting was also attended by state handloom & textile minister Ranjit Dutta, state social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma and others.

Informing about the meeting with chief minister, Irani on her Twitter handle stated that apart from ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ campaign, they also deliberated on solutions to make Assam a leading state in the fight against malnutrition among children and women.

“Met CM @sarbanandsonwal ji in Guwahati to discuss progress of POSHAN Abhiyan in Assam and deliberated on solutions to make Assam a leading state in the fight against malnutrition among children & women,” union minister Irani tweeted.

Earlier, chief minister Sonowal felicitated Irani with a phulam gamosa, sarai and other mementos.

On her arrival at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on Tuesday morning, Irani was felicitated by state BJP leaders.

From the airport, the union cabinet minister proceeded directly to Brahmaputra Guest House to hold meeting with the Assam CM and others on a variety of issues.

‘Poshan Abhiyan’ is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022.

The objective of Poshan Abhiyaan is to reduce stunting in identified districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilization of key Anganwadi services and improving the quality of Anganwadi services delivery.

Its aim is to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.
