Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a Tech City, an electronics manufacturing cluster, at Bongara in Palasbari on the city outskirts.
The programme was held on the sidelines of the Global Investors’ Summit in presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and State IT Minister Keshab Mahanta.

“The tech city will be a landmark for our commitment for the use of science and technology to explore the business potential in the state. Laying the foundation stone two days before the Global Investment Summit is going to be a significant development for us,” IT minister Mahanta said.
The Centre had sanctioned Rs. 50 crore for the project while the rest would be borne by the state and other finding agency.
The Tech City will have state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing electronic products along with other manufacturing support services such as BPO, skill development centre, data centre, testing lab, tool room etc.

The Union Minister also launched the Centre of Excellence for Application Security for NIC, Assam and handed over the Master Service Agreements for a total of five BPO units to Anjaybee and Tatva Technologies Limited. The five BPOs will come up at Nagaon, Majuli, Kokrajhar, Diphu and Silchar.
The dignitaries also launched the NIXI Node – Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Guwahati, which is the country’s first and only neutral internet exchange.
Products designed and developed by the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology which include a microwave tea drying system, universal moisture meter and a radio frequency based disinfestations system were also launched during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said he was very happy to inaugurate the electronic cluster and congratulated Chief Minister Sonowal for relentlessly pursuing the matter with the Centre government due to which the project took concrete shape.
