ULFA (I)  has released abducted Arnab Phukan on Monday evening in a dense jungle at Jairumpur in Arunachal Pradesh.  After his release Anrab first called up his mother and informed her about his release. He has been taken to Jairampur community health centre along Assam-Arunachal border by police for health check-up.

Anrab Phukan  son of business Dilip Phukan of Tinsukia district was abducted by a five suspected ULFA (I) cadres from old Khamdu village under Jairumpur  police station on December 15.

Dilip Phukan owns a  stone crusher at 10th mile Jagun and he used to carry boulder from old Khamdu village. On that particular day, Arnab had gone to Old Khamdu village to look after his father work and got abducted.
According to sources, ULFA (I) has demanded extortion of Rs 3 crore from Dilip Phukan but Phukan has denied any extortion demand from the insurgent group.
This is the second such incident after the abduction of Kuldeep Moran by ULFA (I) last year. Security forces have launched massive operation along the Assam-Arunachal border to track down the whereabouts of Anrab.

Arnab was abducted by a group armed cadre led by Uday Asom of the ULFA (I) and they took him in a gypsy towards National Highway between Jairampur and Jagun. Later, security forces recovered his gypsy from an isolated place in Arunachal Pradesh.

On December 11, the ULFA (I) militants gunned down Anteswar Mahanta, president of the local Village Defence Party (VDP) and his son Karun Mahanta, the president of the local unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU),  at Sonajan-Simaluguri village under Bordumsa police station.
