Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district collector A Md Imtiaz on Saturday said failing to maintain social distancing during the nationwide lockdown period had led 39 people to be infected with coronavirus in the last few days in Vijaywada.
A truck driver in Vijaywada’s Krishna Lanka locality who had the intention of whiling away the time due to boredom had grouped up with his friends and neighbours in order to play cards with them.
This event had resulted in the spread of the deadly virus in 24 people, Imtiaz said.
Another truck driver of the city’s Karmika Nagar locality also decided to kill his time by socializing with a group leading 15 people to be infected with COVID-19.
Vijayawada is one of the major hot spots of coronavirus in the State where over 100 cases have been registered so far.
Over 1000 cases of coronavirus have been reported from Andhra Pradesh.
The death toll due to COVID-19 cases in the State is more than 30.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India surged to 26,496 on Saturday.
The death toll due to coronavirus in the country is 824 so far and the number of active cases is 19868.
5803 people suffering from coronavirus have either been cured or discharged in the country so far.
