Police and army in a joint operation arrested two suspected NDFB (S) militants from Dhula area in Darrang district on Sunday night.
Police officials said the two suspected militants were arrested by a team of police and Army from Barjhar village in Panbari area under Dhula police station of the district.
Army sources said the two arrested NDFB (S) rebels and an Army official were injured in a scuffle ensued before the rebels being caught.
The arrested rebels have been identified as Markosh Basumatary and Simon Boglary of Harisingha in Udalguri district. The injured Army official has been identified as Captain Prabhakar.
“At around 12.30 am on Sunday when a team of police and Army’s Dogra Regiment was patrolling in Barjhar, they saw a group of three individuals moving suspiciously. One of them fired at the team and Army personnel got out of their vehicle to detain the group. In the process, one of two took out a dagger and slashed an Army officer Captain Prabhakar in his left hand causing deep cut wounds in two places,” said an Army official.
The injured official was first rushed to Mangaldai civil hospital and then he was shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for advance treatment.
The detained accused persons will be interrogated now as they were drunk and not able to speak in the early morning.
Two country-made rifles, dagger, gun powder, and fishing net were found on them. A case has been registered in Dhula police station and investigated into the incident is on, said a police official.
