A cyclist was mowed down by a speeding vehicle along national highway 31 at Moranjaan under Rangiya police station.
The deceased identified as one Khagen Haloi, aged around 52 years hailed from bamingaon of Kendukuna in the region.
A carpenter by profession, the victim was returing home in his bicycle after work when a speeding vehicle knocked him down from behind. He died on the spot.
The vehicle, however, fled the site immediately after the accident.
The situation turned volatile with agitated locals gathered at the accident site demanding tracking down and nabbing the vehicle involved in the accident.
However, police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
The police are yet to trace the vehicle.
On the other hand, a youth met with untimely demise in a separate road accident at nagarbahi of Mangaldoi in Darrang district.
A speeding collided with an electric pole resulting in the death of the biker. While the passion rider sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Aditya Bhratdwaj of Sipajhar, while the injured as been identified as Hriday Ranjan Sarma of the same locality in Darrang district.
Though the injured has been immediately admitted to Mangaldoi civil hospital, his condition is stated to be critical.
