In a major breakthrough, Karbi Anglong police on Tuesday arrested two dreaded car lifters from two different places who allegedly lifted the vehicles after murdering their drivers.

One Faijul Rehman was arrested from Dimapur, near the inter-state border of Nagaland and Assam in connection with a case at Borlangfer police station (case no. 12/2018 U/S 302/379/34 IPC).

Body of a driver Devanand Kr Shah of Dimapur who rented his Mahindra Maximo bearing registration number AS-09C-9284, was found early morning on March 17 on Diphu- Lumding Road in Karbi Anglong.

After thorough investigation, Karbi Anglong police managed to arrest Rehman involved in the case.

During interrogation, accused Rehman, hailing from Hojai district, temporarily living in Burma Camp, Dimapur, told the police that the owner-driver Devanand was murdered by Zakir Hussain alias Motu Bhai from Murajhar in Hojai district, and Dildar alias Fahim.

During vehicle checking at Dhansiri outpost area under Diphu police station on Tuesday a stolen Alto car was recovered at 6:15 am in the morning.

The car bearing registration number AR 01D 3376 was being driven by a person who was later identified as Zakir Hussain who could not produce any document in support of the vehicle,  hence, he was arrested.

Faijul, who was produced in Diphu court in connection with the case at Borlangfer police station, identified Zakir Hussain in the court premises who was arrested in connection with the stolen Alto car in Dhansiri as the same Zakir who had allegedly murdered Devanand Kr Shah in the Borlangfer case.
