Two students of Assam Medical College (AMC) on Tuesday were killed in a road mishap at Barbaruah in Dibrugarh. Both the students died on the spot.
According to a police official, the incident took place at 5 am on the NH-37 near the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) CISF colony when the two students identified as Bhargav Borsaikia and James Kamgouhao Sitlhou were on their way to the medical college hostel on a bike.

Bhargav was a MBBS 4th year student and James was a MBBS 3rd year student. Bhargav hailed from Moran in Dibrugarh district and James belonged to Haflong in Dima Hasao district.
Police said both of them were returning early morning from Bhargav’s residence situated at Khowang area of Moran when their motorcycle crashed head-on with a Bolero vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
According to eyewitnesses, the bike, a KTM Duke collided with the speedy vehicle. The impact was so severe that the wheel and part of the bike got mangled with the front portion of the damaged Bolero (NL-04C/2020).

Bhargav had purchased the bike just a month ago and was still to be registered.
“Both the students died on the spot, the three occupants of the Bolero were admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition,” said police. He said they have sent the body for post mortem examination.
“Recently many accident cases took place in Dibrugarh. Many youths violate traffic rules and cross their speed limit on the highway. We have organised awareness programmes among the citizens on road safety,” a police official said.
