Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for formation of a ‘modulation committee’ to examine the issue of separate Twipraland, claims IPFT leader.

‘PM has shown positive sign to our demand and asked for formation of a ‘modulation committee’ to examine the issue,’ IPFT president NC Debbarma told Northeast Now.

Tripura’s tribal party leaders agitating for separate ‘Twipraland’   met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh separately on Friday.

The IPFT president also informed that this has opened the door for formation of a pre-poll alliance with the BJP which at present is the largest opposition party in Tripura.

The team was accompanied by Assam Minister as well as NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma who has been in dialogue with the IPFT on the alliance with the BJP in Tripura.

Meantime, CPI-M has reacted sharply to the latest development.

CPI-M senior leader and Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Pabitra Kar reiterated, “This has yet again given attestation to our allegation that the PMO has given direct support to the divisive forces of which IPFT is the over ground partner and trying to divide our state. The sentiment of the people of the state against such forces will surely be reflected in the coming election results.”

In mid 2017 IPFT had blocked the lone national highway of Tripura for 10 days demanding separate tribal state curving out of the TTAADC area of the state.

The development has assumed significance to the poll bound state where Left Front is in power for the last 25 years.
