Tripura royal Maharajkumari Kamalprabha Devi, the 103-yr-old academician and artist was conferred with the Maha Rani Tulshibati Award on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on Wednesday.

She is the younger sister of the last king of Tripura, Maharaj Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and also the mother of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Deb Barman.

Also referred to as the ‘Last Princess of Tripura’, Kamalprabha Devi has dedicated her life for education of the underprivileged sections of society as well as promotion of arts.

The award is to honour Maharani Tulshi Bati, the queen who played a pivotal role in spreading education, especially among girls in the 19th century.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Deb Barman received the award from Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kr Deb on behalf of his mother. The ailing princess is staying in Nagaon, Assam.

Receiving the award, Barman said, “Although my mother has received several such awards, this one had made her overjoyed. The reason is because it is named after Maharani Tulshi Bati. The Maharani Tulshi Bati school is one of the oldest schools in the country offering education to girls.”
