Youth Congress in Agartala brought out a silent candle rally demanding death penalty for rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

According to allegations brought by the victim, she was raped by Sengar and his aides when she went to his house in Unnao on June 4, 2017, where she had gone to seek a job.

In April last year, the MLA was arrested but the trial is yet to start.

The Uttar Pradesh state administration was accused of going slow on the investigations against the powerful legislator but after over a year of zero movements on the case, it resurfaced after the deadly car crash that the rape survivor’s family alleges was orchestrated by Sengar.

The 19-year-old woman and her lawyer were critically injured and her aunt and aunt’s sister died in the road accident in Rae Bareli on Sunday allegedly orchestrated by the accused MLA.

The rally by the Tripura unit of Youth Congress started from the Congress Bhavan in Agartala and went through the main thoroughfares and concluded in front of the Ujjayanta palace which earlier was the state Legislative Assembly.

Youth Congress president of Tripura Susanta Chakraborty demanded death penalty of the BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar for allegedly conspiring to murder the young woman, who has accused the politician of raping her, and her lawyer in connection with a road accident case.

He alleged that when Prime Minister Narendr Modi raises ‘beti bachao, beti padhao‘ slogan the women are becoming more unsafe and vulnerable in India.
