The police on Sunday arrested a youth for spreading fake news on Facebook regarding COVID19.

The arrested youth has been identified as Abhishek Dhar, a resident of Badharghat area under Arundhuti Nagar police station in West Tripura district.

A police team from Arundhuti Nagar police station arrested Abhishek Dhar from his home on Sunday, said police sources.

Sources at Arundhati Nagar police station informed that on Sunday, Abhishek Dhar uploaded a post on his Facebook account where he had mentioned that one person of his locality was infected with Coronavirus (COVID19) and that person was hiding it.

As soon as the Facebook post went viral it created panic among the people.

The panic-stricken people of the locality immediately informed the police about the Facebook post and urged them to investigate it.

Without wasting time, a police team from the Arundhati Nagar police station went to Abhishek Dhar’s house and asked him about the identity of that person who was allegedly infected by COVID19.

Police said Abhishek Dhar admitted that he had uploaded the post on his Facebook page but failed to reveal the identity of the person.

Then the police team detained him Abhishek Dhar and took to the police station.

Later the police were convinced that it was fake news circulated by the Facebook user to create panic among the people.
