Sensation prevails after the recovery of a widow’s body from her house in the Paschim Para of Nalchar under Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
The blood-stained body of the woman was recovered on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Konika Das, a middle-aged woman.
When the police recovered the body, it was in a half-naked condition. The villagers suspect that she was gang-raped and then murdered.
Srinivas Das, the husband of the deceased, died 15 years ago. Their only daughter was married five years back.

“Konika Das had been living alone since her daughter’s marriage and some miscreants might have taken advantage of her loneliness,” said locals.
In the preliminary investigation, the police have observed that the woman died due to attacks with a sharp weapon in her belly.
“Being financially weak, Konika Das had no money or valuables in her house which could be looted,” locals said.
The police of Melaghar police station went to the spot at night after receiving the information.
The women of the area told the police that the victim along with other women of the neighbourhood was supposed to go somewhere on the occasion of the Holi festival.
“When the women from her neighbourhood came to Konika’s house at around 5 pm they were shocked to find her lying in a pool of blood inside the house located in an isolated place. When the women shouted, the people of the neighbourhood gathered and informed the police,” sources said.
The forensic team and dog squad have been called to be part of the investigation.
Tripura reported five cases of murder in the last week.
