With 89% vaccination of people above 45 years, Tripura has topped the list of Indian 35 states and union territories while the national average stands at 35%, said education minister Ratanlal Nath.
Speaking to reporters on Monday evening, minister Nath said: “Five states and union territories in the entire country have vaccinated over 60% of people above 45 years of age while Tripura has topped the list by vaccinating 89% population till May 31.”

The minister asserted that this has been possible as the Tripura government believed in mass awareness, testing, and vaccination across the state.
Altogether 40.07% of people in the state have been covered in the vaccination drive with the support of people and their active participation.
Nath said, “The government had a target of vaccinating 1,04,494 people above 45 years and around 90,000 people were vaccinated which is 86%. For those, who are 60 years and above, the target of 61,710 people as per the electoral roll was set and we have vaccinated 64,539 people, which is around 104%.”

“This was no less than a miracle for Tripura to vaccinate so many people over the last one month period,” Tripura government spokesperson Nath said.
“The government officials and health workers have administered a total of 16,06,456 people so far. A total of 10,98,818 people have received the first dose while 5,07,638 people have received the second dose as of May 31,” claimed Nath.
The minister also said it was possible due to the untiring efforts of the local clubs and people involved in helping the state government by bringing the people from their homes to participate in the mass vaccination and testing drive.
He also said Tripura presently has a stock of 2,73,390 doses while 1,92,850 more doses of Covishield and Covaxin in the pipeline will be received in the month of June.
Tripura also conducted the highest single-day test of 15,683 samples to trace the infected people on Sunday.
Giving break-ups of the month of May, he said on May 1, a total of 5318 people were tested, on May 18, a total of 10,185 people were tested.
On May 19, a total of 10,699 people were tested, on May 20, a total of 11,438 were tested, on May 21, a total of 14,589 people were tested, on May 29, a total of 13,371 people were tested and on May 30, a total of 15,683 people were tested for Covid19.
