Agartala: The Tripura government has initiated a technology-driven education programme to introduce robotics, drone technology and virtual reality (VR)-based learning in Vidyajyoti schools across the state under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.

The initiative, being implemented by the School Education Department, is aimed at integrating emerging technologies into classroom education in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Robotics and VR laboratories are being established in all Vidyajyoti schools to promote experiential learning and enhance students’ analytical, creative and problem-solving abilities.

To support the programme, schools are being provided with the necessary technological infrastructure, including robotics equipment, VR devices and other electronic tools required for practical learning.

As part of the rollout, a five-day capacity-building programme for teachers commenced at Shishu Bihar School on July 20. The training is intended to prepare teachers to independently manage the laboratories and effectively incorporate the new technologies into classroom teaching.

During the sessions, teachers are receiving hands-on exposure to robotics, sensor-based systems, battery-operated models and drone operations. They are also being trained to use mobile applications for drone control so that students can later be introduced to the practical applications of the technology.

The programme also familiarises teachers with the use of VR headsets, enabling students to experience immersive lessons in subjects such as science, history, space exploration and human anatomy through simulated environments.

Education department officials said the laboratories will be monitored regularly after they become operational to ensure proper use of the equipment and smooth implementation of the programme.

The government expects the initiative to make classroom learning more engaging, encourage interest in science and technology, foster innovation among students and equip them with skills relevant to future academic and career opportunities. Officials also believe that greater use of interactive learning methods could help improve student participation and reduce school dropout rates.
