Tripura State Rifles personnel ‘commits suicide’

A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan has allegedly committed suicide at police headquarters (PHQ) late on Wednesday night.

The deceased jawan has been identified as Bijan Karmakar (38).

Bijan Karmakar allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle.

Karmakar was a resident of Unokoti district and was posted with the first battalion of TSR in Agartala.

Karmakar was staying in a rented accommodation at AD Nagar in Agartala.

“Bijan Karmakar came to PHQ last evening for duty. At around 7.45pm he shot himself with his service rifle,” police informed.

Police further informed that only one round was fired from Karmakar’s gun.

Meanwhile, the police has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to preliminary investigation, Bijan Karmakar committed suicide as he might have been “suffering from depression”.
