Agartala: A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his 55-year-old mother with a dao at Ratanpur village in Khowai district of Tripura on Wednesday (July 17).

Krishan Mohan Jhara, the elder son of the deceased, Parbati Jhara, recounted the incident to the media.

According to him, after dinner on Tuesday (July 16) night, his mother slept in a separate room with his younger brother, Haricharan Jhara. 

Early in the morning of Wednesday (July 17), a tragic scene unfolded at Ratanpur village in Khowai district of Tripura, when Krishan Mohan Jhara made a horrifying discovery.

Upon entering home, Krishan found his mother, Parbati Jhara, brutally murdered.

Her head was severed from her body, and his younger brother was sitting beside her, holding a dao.

Despite Krishan’s desperate inquiries, his brother remained silent.

Krishan promptly alerted the Tripura police, who swiftly arrived and arrested the younger brother.

Khowai sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Prasun Kanti Majumder responded to the scene immediately.

In a statement, Tripura police confirmed, “We received a distress call about a murder in Ratanpur village. Upon arrival, we discovered that Parbati Jhara had been killed by her younger son. We have taken the son into custody and sent the body for a postmortem.”

This tragic incident followed a heated altercation between the mother and son the previous night.
