Sepahijala district magistrate (DM), Chandra Kumar Jamatia and superintendent of police, (SP) Krishnendu Chakravertty have tested positive for COVID19.
Their samples were found positive for COVID19 on Tuesday.
According to sources, both the district magistrate (DM) and the superintendent of police of Sepahijala are in home isolation at their own quarters.
“The family members of both the DM and SP have not been infected by the virus,” said a sub-divisional health officer.
“The DM lives alone in his quarter; so, no other person in his house has tested positive,” said additional district magistrate (ADM) Udayan Sinha.
“28 people from the district administration (of Sepahijala) took COVID tests in the hospital. I hope the results will come out soon,” Sinha said.
The district police chief himself confirmed the news of testing positive for COVID19.
Stating that he tested positive, the superintendent of police said he is in home isolation at his quarter.
Where the two top-level officials will be treated is yet to be decided, the sub-divisional health officer said.
This is for the first time that any top-ranking official in the district administration has tested COVID19 positive in the state.
Earlier, one MLA, who is also the vice-president of the Tripura BJP, tested COVID19 positive.
