Senior Tripura CPI-M leader Bijan Dhar has died of COVID-19.
Bijan Dhar died at a Kolkata hospital on Monday.

Dhar was 70 years old when he breathed his last. Bijan Dhar’s body will be flown in to Agartala in Tripura.
He was a prominent political strategist for the CPI-M in Tripura for many years.
Bijan Dhar was elected to the CPI-M’s state committee in 1978. He became a member of the state secretariat in 1995.

Dhar was made party secretary in 2008, a post he held for 10 years. In 2018, he was elected unanimously as the convener of the Left Front.
Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb also condoled Dhar’s demise.
“I am deeply mourned at the demise of the former CPI(M) secretary and Left Front convener Bijan Dhar. I pray for the departed soul’s peace. I pray to God for strength to the bereaved family to endure the pain,” Deb wrote on Facebook.
