AGARTALA: Pradyot Debbarma, scion of the Tripura royal family and former chairman of TIPRA party, voiced his concerns on Tuesday (February 27), stressing that the Indian government cannot realize its “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” mantra without addressing the needs of the indigenous people in Tripura.

During his inspection of preparations for an indefinite hunger strike scheduled for February 28 at Hatai Kotor (formerly Baramura Hills) in West District of Tripura, Debbarma engaged with reporters.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the indigenous community’s needs over political considerations, asserting that government initiatives benefiting TIPRA party would positively impact the broader indigenous population, known as Tiprasa.

Debbarma highlighted the challenges indigenous people face, noting that around 95 percent of them are landless.

He emphasized that securing land rights would benefit everyone collectively. Furthermore, he reiterated his commitment to advocating for indigenous rights, pledging to continue fighting for their well-being tirelessly.

Despite health challenges, Pradyot Debbarma reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to securing benefits for his community.

He dismissed personal ambitions for political positions, such as minister, MLA or MP, emphasizing his focus on serving the people and making necessary sacrifices.

Debbarma urged the BJP-led central government to acknowledge that achieving Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas hinges on addressing indigenous concerns and called for written assurances of the government’s commitment to indigenous well-being.
