Tripura on Wednesday registered 22 new COVID19 positive cases taking the total to 64.

All the new cases are from the Ambassa-based 138th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF).

The infected patients include 18 male, 1 female and 3 children.

Tripura now has crossed the number of COVID19 positive cases recorded in any state in the Northeast.

With the new cases, the number of active COVID19 patients in Tripura stands at 62.

Earlier, two COVID19 patients were discharged from hospitals after their recovery.

Till Tuesday, with 44 cases, Assam recorded the highest number of COVID19 positive cases in the region.

Confirming the news, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kr Deb on Wednesday tweeted: “Alert! 22 persons from 138th-Bn #BSF Ambassa found #COVID19 POSITIVE today including 18 Male, 1 Female, 3 Children.”

“Total #COVID19 POSITIVE cases in Tripura stands at 64 (2 already discharged, so active cases: 62).”

However, the chief minister has urged people not to panic.

“Don’t Panic, Govt is working vigilantly,” said Deb.

On Saturday, two BSF jawans belonging to the Ambassa-based 138th Battalion, tested positive for COVID19 in Tripura taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 4.

After that, the Tripura health department tested all the BSF jawans posted in the Ambassa-based BSF camp.

There is no report of any positive case found among the local people of Ambassa and Gandachera.
