The draft electoral rolls of three-tier panchayats  – gram panchayats , panchayat samities and zilla parishads of Tripura were published on Wednesday.

The draft electoral rolls state that there are total voters of 7,71,412, out of which 3, 98,255 are male and 3, 73,187 female.

This has setting the ball roll for conducting by election in casual vacancies in the State.

As per the schedule, the last date for submission of claims and objections has been fixed on August 8 while disposal of claims and objections would be done on August 13, informed officials of State Election Commission (SEC).

The final electoral roll for the casual vacancies would be published on August 21 next.

Earlier, the SEC has published final list of polling booths- 1730 spreading in 25 RD Blocks after disposing claims and objections.

Once the final electoral rolls are prepared, the State Election Commission would be ready to conduct by-elections in the casual vacancies of three-tier panchayts.

Altogether 2,977 seats of gram panchayats out of a total of 6,111 seats have fallen vacant, while 136 seats of panchayat samities and 12 seats of Zilla Parishads have remained vacant following resignation of elected members after change of guard in Tripura last February.

Now, the government wants to conduct by-election in the casual vacancies arising out of resignation of elected members mostly from the CPI-M.

It is expected that by-election will be held in September to fill up the casual vacancies.
