AGARTALA: Former TIPRA party chairman and scion of Tripura’s royal family, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, has announced his plan to undertake a fast unto death as a means to draw attention to the longstanding grievances of Tripura’s indigenous population.

This move comes as a response to what he perceives as the central government’s neglect of the indigenous communities’ issues in Tripura.

In an emotional audio message released on February 24, Pradyot expressed his deep disappointment with the lack of attention given to Tripura’s indigenous people by officials and leaders in Delhi.

He accused them of disregarding the Tripura’s significance and delaying vital discussions on finding constitutional solutions for indigenous people.

“I have ardently championed the cause of my people, and now, we stand at the apex of this endeavor. I have made countless sacrifices for my fellow Tiprasa,” Pradyot emphasized in his message, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the cause.

Emphasizing the importance of equal recognition and status for indigenous communities, particularly within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Pradyot stressed the urgency of the situation.

He cautioned that if the central government fails to take decisive action, he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for his people by embarking on a fast unto death.

“I am prepared to place my cause above my own well-being and family. I am committed to sacrificing my life for the betterment of my people,” Pradyot declared with resolute determination.

“I possess no fear, as I have unwavering faith in the justice of my mission. I will continue to endure in this endeavor until my final moment,” he added.
