The Mungiakami Police under Teliamura sub-division of Khowai district in Tripura on Sunday seized 14,000 bottles of Phensedyl worth Rs 26 lakh. 

Teliamura sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Tuhitan Tripura told Northeast Now that the consignment was seized during routine frisking of vehicles. 

โ€œTripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans and police personnel were frisking vehicles on Sunday morning in front of a Shiva temple in the 36-mile area under Mungiakami police station. At around 5.30 AM, a truck bearing registration number AS01DC-1315 was coming from Ambassa was proceeding towards Agartala. The police personnel signalled the vehicle to stop and started searching it,โ€ informed Teliamura SDPO โ€“ Tuhitan Tripura.

He added: โ€œWhile searching the truck, the police seized 14,000 bottles of phensidyl packed in many cartons.โ€ 

The driver of the truck has also been arrested in connection with the seizure. 

The arrested truck driver has been identified as โ€“ Manik Sarkar. 

โ€œHe will be produced before the court on Monday,โ€ the SDPO further said.
