The Mungiakami Police under Teliamura sub-division of Khowai district in Tripura on Sunday seized 14,000 bottles of Phensedyl worth Rs 26 lakh.
Teliamura sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Tuhitan Tripura told Northeast Now that the consignment was seized during routine frisking of vehicles.
“Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans and police personnel were frisking vehicles on Sunday morning in front of a Shiva temple in the 36-mile area under Mungiakami police station. At around 5.30 AM, a truck bearing registration number AS01DC-1315 was coming from Ambassa was proceeding towards Agartala. The police personnel signalled the vehicle to stop and started searching it,” informed Teliamura SDPO – Tuhitan Tripura.

He added: “While searching the truck, the police seized 14,000 bottles of phensidyl packed in many cartons.”
The driver of the truck has also been arrested in connection with the seizure.
The arrested truck driver has been identified as – Manik Sarkar.
“He will be produced before the court on Monday,” the SDPO further said.
