The Tripura police has denied permission to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for holding a rally in Agartala on September 15.

Denying the permission for the rally, the police said that it has already granted permission to a different party for a rally on the same day.

The TMC rally was supposed to be led by the partyโ€™s national general secretary โ€“ Abhishek Banerjee.

After being denied permission for the rally, TMC is now drawing up alternative plans for September 15.

Meanwhile, the TMC has given a fresh application to the Tripura police seeking permission to hold the Abhishek Banerjee road show in Agartala on the same route on September 16.

โ€œPolice claims another political party has taken permission at the same time for the entire city of Agartala,โ€ senior TMC leader Sushmita Dev said.

The โ€˜padyatraโ€™ is being planned by the TMC, which is marking its entry into the political arena of Tripura, to highlight the โ€œmisrule of the BJP-IPFT governmentโ€ in the state.
