Well trained militants armed with sophisticated weapons had kidnapped the four bank officials of Tripura Gramin Bank on November 24 evening. The abductors released them after receiving the ransom amount of Rs 50 lakh.

Narrating the ordeals during his captivity before the curious media, assistant manager of the Ompi branch of Tripura Gramin Bank Raktim Bhowmik said a group of 17 to 20 militants with sophisticated arms and ammunition kidnapped them at gun point after intercepting their vehicle by blocking the road with tree logs. They were kept in an undisclosed hideout inside Tripura where another group was assigned to keep a vigil on them. Raktim’s father Ratan Bhowmik handed over the ransom amount of Rs 50 lakh to the kidnappers.

Kidnappers even threatened to chop them into pieces if their demand is not fulfilled. Raktim’s father informed that he along with the family members of three other abducted bank officials arranged the ransom amount. According to him though initially the police was active and promised to track and rescue them but with every passing day they realized that only ransom would assure their safe return.

Meanwhile, the state police have arrested six of the kidnappers from various locations of Agartala, Mongiakami and Taidu. Police have also recovered the ransom amount from the possession of the abductors.
