The North Tripura district administration has begun pigs culling operation in Suvashnagar village in Kanchanpur of the district.

The culling operations began in the area after samples tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) at the Northeastern Regional Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL) in Guwahati.

According to reports, Kanchanpur in North district has been declared epicenter of the disease in Tripura.

A total of 96 pigs have been identified for culling.

Most of these pigs belong to private farm owners. The owners have reportedly been compensated for their losses.

The pigs, which are being culled, are later being buried deep to avoid any further spread of the disease among other animals.
