Tripura organizes rally on gender equality on eve of Women’s Day

With the call for gender equality – economic, social and political, hundreds of women from various ages and walks of life took part in a colorful procession in the Tripura capital of Agartala, a day ahead of International Women’s Day celebration.

Tripura social welfare and social education minister Santana Chakma and agriculture and tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy flagged off the colourful procession.

The procession aimed at spreading the message of women empowerment was organized by Social Welfare and Social Education Department in collaboration with the Tripura Women’s Commission.

Students, teachers, nurses, NCC cadres, housewives, social activist, and various other trades took part in the rally that started from Rabindra Satabarshiki hall area and after passing through the streets of the capital city concluded at Umakanta mini-stadium.

Various taboos and social issues related to women were demonstrated through acts by women to aware and educate the society to help drive positive changes for women towards gender equality.

Road acts were demonstrated so that people can learn to appreciate and respect women who play multi-role in their lives and through a balance between home, family, friends, and work makes them the irreplaceable pillars of our society.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
