Tripura has exported a total of 40 metric ton of organic pineapple to Germany.

Pineapples from Tripura will now be available at markets in Hamburg, Germany.

The first consignment of organic pineapples of Tripura was flagged off by chief minister Biplab Deb at Kumargahat in Unakoti district.

The pineapple consignment has been flagged off by the Tripura CM through waterways on Saturday.

Tripura horticulture department has informed that it is for the first time after closing down of NEERAMAC’s fruit concentration centre in 2007-08, the organically processed pineapple has been exported.

“Growing demand and proper management has ensured that pineapples which were earlier dumped and not even priced at Rs 2 in the local markets, is now fetching a stable price not less than Rs 15-20,” Tripura CM Biplab Deb said.

“I am delighted to visit the pineapple orchards. With Tripura government’s assistance, farmers are now able to get the appropriate value for pineapples,” Deb added.

“Our government is committed to fulfil… mission of doubling farmers’ income by 2022,” Deb said.
