The Akhura check-post in Agartala has been closed since Sunday night 2 days after nine persons, associated with this Integrated Check Post (ICP), tested positive for COVID-19.
Accordingly, the movement of passengers and goods have been stopped for the next 48 hours.
On Saturday night, a doctor tested positive for COVID-19 in Agartala, who was later shifted to Bhagat Singh Yuba Awas Covid Care Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Sources informed that the said doctor was on duty at Akhaura Check Post on May 28, the day on when stranded Indians in Bangladesh returned to India via the check-post.
These returnees underwent health check-up at the check-post and the doctor along with other officials might have got infected from one of the returnees.
Apart from the doctor, others who tested positive for COVID-19 include six BSF jawans and two other officials.
The check-post is now being sanitised and hence the officials have decided to keep it shut.
