Another MLA from Tripura has tested COVID19 positive on Monday.

The infected MLA is from the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), which is a partner of Tripura’s coalition government.

Debbarma represents the Simna Assembly constituency.

The MLA is now in home isolation.

Debbarma said the other members of his family are fine and all of them have tested negative.

With Debbrama, a total of five MLAs from Tripura have tested positive for COVID19 so far.

Earlier, BJP’s Tripura state vice-president and MLA Ram Pada Jamatia, IPFT MLA Dhananjoy Tripura, BJP MLAs Mimi Majumder and Asish Kumar Saha tested COVID19 positive.

Among them, Rampada Jamatia and Dhananjoy Tripura have recovered.

MLAs Mimi Majumder and Asish Kumar Saha are still undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Tripura’s noted lady advocate, Padma Dattagupta, died of COVID19 on Monday.

She succumbed to infection in GB Hospital at 12:55 pm on Monday.

Dattagupta was taken to GBP Hospital on Sunday night after her condition deteriorated.

Dattagupta, who was born on April 18, 1970, after completing graduation in law, became a member of the Tripura Bar Association in 1991.

She was the co-president of the All India Lawyers Union, Tripura State Committee.

Three more prisoners, lodged in the Kanchanpur sub-jail in North Tripura, tested positive for COVID19 on Monday.

The infected prisoners have been shifted to the Covid Care Centre.
